Specialty: Narrative Improv
Stories can be powerful, and improvised stories can be both powerful and hilarious. In this class, you will learn to create compelling characters, hone your acting chops, and analyze the structures of common genres.

This specialty course is taught by Chris Hannay and Angus MacDonald, two members of the action-movie-spoofing trio Bro Bro Bro Your Boat (winners of the 2016 Crush Improv Bout Time tournament) and two of the founders of Quest Friends Forever, Ottawa’s Dungeons & Dragons improv show.

Classes are eight weeks, 2.5 hours per class, one class show. $225 (+HST)

Chris Hannay loves all types of improvised theatre, from games to narrative to slow comedy. He trained at Toronto’s Impatient Theatre Co. and Second City, Chicago’s iO Theater and The Annoyance, New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade and Calgary’s Loose Moose Theatre. He’s performed at festivals in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and New York City. He’s directed two improv shows at the Ottawa Fringe Festival. He is a co-founder of the Improv Embassy.
Angus MacDonald, an avid consumer of improv, started taking classes with Experimental Farm Theatre in January, 2015. Within a year he was performing in various EFT shows and is a founding member of Trevor Comedy. Angus was also part of the trio Bro Bro Bro Your Boat (with Chris Hannay and Tuong La) that won Crush Improv’s ‘Bout Time tournament. Angus continues taking classes and workshops and experiencing as much improv as he can so he can keep learning.
