The Fembassy: Find Your Voice (with Aiden Javed)

This workshop is for women and non-binary folks who are brand new to stand-up (though any experience level is welcome), looking for a safe environment to work on some jokes before trying them out at an open mic. You’ll learn pointers and techniques on how to turn your ideas into punchlines — and feel free to bring any material you’re working on for tips and feedback on how to punch up your act.

Saturday, 1 to 2:30 pm, February 8, $20 (+HST)
Location: 441 MacLaren St, Suite 330

Aiden Javed is a comedian who ventured into the art form after taking a stand-up class at the Improv Embassy last year (she also performs with her improv troupe The Lunettes, and writes and performs with local sketch troupe The Shit Hot Shit Show). Her goal is to follow in the footsteps of comedians like Jon Stewart, John Oliver and Hassan Minhaj, and believes comedy is one of the best tools for ordinary individuals to speak truth to power. Aiden will also be featuring at that evening’s The Fembassy at, 8pm at Happy Goat Coffee (35 Laurel).
