Our Improv Jams

The Improv Embassy offers pay-what-you-can improv jams for improvisers of all levels!

Improv jam—(noun) an informal, facilitated session that lets you work on your improv skills in a playful, non-competitive environment.

We offer two kinds of Jams. The Beginner/Community Jam is open to improvisers of all experience levels. In this Jam, we’ll practice improv skills through some fun exercises. Each session is a different experience. We especially welcome those who are trying improv for the first time.

The Advanced Jam is meant for Improv Embassy students who have taken at least the first three classes of 101 Longform Improv. There will be advanced exercises and players will perform full longform scenes under the guidance of our experienced facilitators.

We’d love for you to join us! (As for all our classes, students must be 18+)

FAQ

HOW MUCH SHOULD I PAY?/WHAT IS PWYC?
Our Jams are pay-what-you-can (PWYC) to decrease barriers to participation. To cover costs such as room rental and facilitator pay we suggest $10 but you are free to select whatever payment you can afford. The Improv Embassy is a non-profit organization and you can help support our activities with a Supporter payment of $20.

IS THERE A CODE OF CONDUCT?
The Jams take place in a welcoming, easygoing space—we’re here to have fun, support each other, and foster a sense of encouragement and community. All participants are expected to refrain from conduct, onstage or offstage, that is sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory. Toxic behaviour will be shut down. See our full Code of Conduct here.

DO YOU HAVE COVID PROTOCOLS?
We’re following the guidelines set out by Ottawa Public Health. We are a mask-friendly event, but if you’re feeling sick, please stay home.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MYSELF?
Wear comfy clothes. If it’s winter you will need a change of shoes. Put your gum away.
Respect people’s boundaries. Be kind and be prepared to have fun.
